Troubleshooting Imports

Common Issues

Import Fails - "Invalid File"

  • Check file is PNG format
  • Verify file contains character data (not a regular PNG)
  • Try re-exporting from source
  • Check file isn't corrupted

Missing Data After Import

  • Source might use older format (V1/V2)
  • Some platform-specific data doesn't transfer
  • Manually add missing information
  • Check export options on source platform

Character Looks Different

  • Different models interpret definitions differently
  • Adjust temperature settings
  • Try different AI models
  • Refine character definition for Tiny Land

Lorebook Not Working

  • Check lorebook entries imported correctly
  • Verify keywords are set up properly
  • Enable lorebook in chat settings
  • Test with specific trigger words

Best Practices

Before Exporting

  • Test character thoroughly
  • Add creator notes with usage instructions
  • Include comprehensive lorebook if needed
  • Set appropriate NSFW flags
  • Review all fields for personal information

Before Importing

  • Check source reputation (avoid malicious content)
  • Scan file if from untrusted source
  • Review imported data before saving
  • Keep backups of your original characters

File Management

  • Use descriptive filenames: "CharacterName_v1.0.png"
  • Organize exports in folders by category
  • Keep backups in cloud storage
  • Version your characters (update character_version field)

Sharing Characters

  • Make character public on Tiny Land for easy sharing
  • Or export and share PNG file directly
  • Include usage guidelines in creator notes
  • Specify license/attribution requirements

Advanced: Editing Character Data

Manual JSON Editing

  1. Export character as JSON
  2. Edit in text editor
  3. Validate JSON syntax
  4. Import edited JSON

Programmatic Access

For developers:

  • Use PNG metadata libraries to read/write character data
  • Parse JSON from base64-encoded tEXt chunk
  • Modify and re-encode
  • See Character Card V3 Spec
💡 Pro Tip: When migrating from platforms without export, take screenshots of all character settings before recreating. This ensures you don't miss important details.
